40 Days of Kundalini Cleansing

I love when timing unfolds in a synchronic order in life.  I recently had to go out of town and miss my Monday night yoga class, something I try to do as little as possible.  Luckily my dear brother, Brady, accepted a request to lead the class.  While practicing the kriya together we decided that we would both start a 40 day Kriya meditation starting on Magnetic Monkey, the radial center of the Mayan sacred calendar, the Tzolkin. What’s really cool about this is that I started my first ever 40 day mediation (in 2000) on Magnetic Dragon day, the linear starting point of the Tzolkin.

For my 40 day meditation I’m doing the Beginners Cleansing Set and the Medical Meditation for Habituation. I really like the brief description yogiji gives for these two.

Beginners Cleansing Set

This series can beautify and lighten your body.  The different exercises help circulate the blood and navel point energy, creative power and sexual energy, the chemical balance in the body, and the energy in the brains and eyes.  It is a pretty simple, and not too difficult set (except for the 3 minute stretch pose).  I think my favorite part is doing the legs wide apart exercise since that is an area I’m less flexible with and it’s a nice alternative to legs open forward bends.

Medical Meditation for Habituation

I started doing this meditation very early in my Kundalini practice to help break old patterns of putting too many toxins into my body (and have written about it before).  Yogiji says that hundreds of years from now, modern science will be able to quantify and truly understand this meditation.  “The pressure exerted by the thumbs triggers a rhythmic reflex current into the central brain. This current activates the brain area directly underneath the stem of the pineal gland. It is an imbalance in this area that makes mental and physical addictions seemingly unbreakable.”  He goes on to point out that if we’re not addicted to drugs or food, we’re subconsciously addicted to things like “acceptance, advancement, rejection, emotional love, etc”
